
Proficiency Badges were introduced in 1981 to generate greater interest in NPCC training and to open up new avenues for cadets to achieve and excel. These badges aim to reward cadets for achieving proficiency in various aspects of NPCC training. Badges are divided according to four core areas of NPCC training, and the recommended levels for achieving the various badges are as follows:

Cadets may also don the NYAA Badge of the respective level of achievement (Gold, Silver or Bronze) upon attaining the National Youth Achievement Award. In addition, Award Badges are given to outstanding cadets in recognition of their high performance in NPCC training. These Badges are the SPF-NPCC Badge and the Best Unit Cadet Badge.
